José F. González, CFREExecutive Director

As an experienced development professional and mission driven leader, José has spent more than 20 years in development having served with both local and national organizations.

“I am extremely proud and humbled by the opportunity to serve as the Executive Director of the Foundation for the Children of the Californias. I have always been driven by serving my neighbors in need, especially children. There is no greater motivation or gift in professional life than to do something you love. Helping children is a calling and my goal is for the Foundation to flourish as we look towards working with our supporters and partners throughout the mega region to continue to provide much needed healthcare to children in need.”

José credits his mission driven mindset to his beloved mentor, Father Joe Carroll. José’s skills were honed by his mentor at one of Southern California’s largest and most respected organizations, Father Joe’s Villages, where he spent 10 years. José has gone onto serve as the Director of Development for the Catholic Education Foundation of Los Angeles (CEF), a scholarship focused foundation that served severely low-income students. Under his leadership, CEF’s development efforts generated over $14 million dollars. Most recently, José returned to San Diego where he served as the Director of Development for the Hahn School of Nursing at the University of San Diego.

José loves to spend time at home with his family, ride his Harley, cook gourmet meals, and be out fishing. “I have been very blessed in my life. While 2020 was a rough one for everybody, it gave me the chance to refocus on what is truly important, the health and wellbeing of my family and my children. Now, in my professional life, I can make sure to pass those blessings forward and make sure that we can provide the healthcare necessary for every child who needs it.”
